In 20, Metal Slug Defend and Attack were tower defense games released on mobile, with another mobile game currently in development. While a tactical RPG may be unique for the series, it isn't the first time that Metal Slug has branched out into other genres. Generated levels, which are also elements of roguelike-style games, are also expected to make their way in Tactics, allowing no two playthroughs to be exactly alike from each other. Metal Slug Tactics also promises 'roguelike' elements, incorporated with its base tactical RPG gameplay, which means that players will more than likely expect to lose while still finding ways to maintain their progress. One of the gameplay features highlighted in the trailer is 'Sync,' which appears to be a method of units linking actions into another within a sequence. The gameplay trailer features the returning cast of Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma, each of whom appears to have a special class assigned to each unit. In Metal Slug Tactics, players will need to strategically dispatch their units to place themselves in advantageous situations, similar to other tactical RPGs including the XCOM series.
